Free day out! (Recommended)

Pros Great for a free day out if you have a few hours to kill in London. I found their costume collections particularly useful for my GCSE textiles coursework a few years ago - I'm not sure how much their exhibitions and displays have changed now, but it was well worth a visit then.

Cons Probably slightly less for the children than some of the other museums in London, but it's definitely worth a visit if museums are your sort of thing! And it's free, so it really doesn't feel as if you've wasted anything!

Pros Free!! Beautiful collections, very interesting. Great range of places and periods and different mediums. Wonderful shop which is great at Christmas time for unusual gifts etc. Great costume displays.

Cons Exhibitions are not free and can be busy with tourists etc.

Pros A fantastic space and exhibits. So near the Natural history museum you really can’t see one and not the other but completely different in every way from each other. Being utterly free this is really somewhere everyone should go.

On the main tube line and with an underground entrance it’s easy access, without even having to venture outside, great for rainy day entertainment.

The V & A surprised me by being relatively modern with fantastic temporary exhibitions – the last I saw was photography and fashion and design. They have a wonderful sculpture section, with really good explanations and information on each, more than any other museum I’ve seen. There’s also a smaller section of exhibits that changes regularly and charge for admittance,

Though there doesn’t’ seem to be a sections specifically aimed at children, the large aisle and wide walkways, selection of items behind glass or that can be touched without fear do make it a good place to take children. Divided into smaller sections access for the disabled is not the easiest but is possible.

The gallery shop is more usefull and interesting than many with a really good range of art materials, educational books and lower priced ‘memento’ items.

Cons They do close quiet early but it’s not the hugest museum so unless you leave it till very late in the day you should have no trouble seeing everything.

The Best Museum in London! (Recommended)

Pros I love the V&A - they always have really good temporary exhibitions on different things such as photography, fashion and design. I have enjoyed Diane Arbus, Modernism, Lee Miller, Couture Fashion recently. I was there only a short while ago and saw a great exhbition on the Supremes and their stage clothes.

The permanent exhbition is also excellent, really varied with something for everyone and hidden treasures every where you go.

They have a really great shop - so many good ideas for presents and a wonderful supply of art books.

Cons Nothing really, would love for them to open later on more days..that's about it!
