A haven (Recommended)

Pros For those who like animals and gardening, or who just want a break from city life, there is little that can compare with the City Farm. Only a five minute bus ride from the bustle of Princess Street, stepping into the Farm is like stepping into another world! Sirens and drilling noises are replaced with quacking, neighing and laughing, and harassed shoppers are replaced with pigs!

This is an ideal choice for both children and adults, although our springtime visit meant a few red-faced parents were having to explain a little more than they wanted about the behaviour of sheep! Children can pet many of the animals, and while adults can too, we're expected to wait until after the children - ageism!

Cons If you're not an animal fan, or if you have timid children, this may not be the place for you. And should you go without children, be prepared to be a little bit frustrated as children run around with very little supervision, bumping into you and shrieking in your ears!

A little piece of sanity in a crazy city (Recommended)

Pros A delightful place to spend an hour or 2 away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh.

They have sheep, pigs, chicken, ducks, rabbits and more and also some good displays of homoepathic plants and organic growing methods.

It's run on donations only so you only have to give what you want to.

Cons None - it's fab
