Fine wine without the pretense
(Recommended)
Pros
It's only bloody brilliant! Green & Blue was set up by a really friendly couple just a couple of years ago, and however cheesey they may sound on their website, they are thoroughly lovely and genuine people who seem to have a genuine passion in bringing fine wine to everyone. It's no mean feat to please the wino snobs and the uneducated dabblers alike, but there's not an ounce of pretentiousness about this place. For a winebar (for want of a better moniker), I would consider that a miracle!
The atmosphere is warm and cosy, with incredibly attentive, knowledgable and helpful service. Staff aren't so annoying as to jump in and proffer their "expertise" on what is a good and a bad wine like some sommeliers, however, if you are struggling, they do know their stuff and will always come up with a good suggestion that fits your criteria, no matter how ineloquent it may be! "I want something oaky and earthy, but I like fish and marmite so if it was crisp enough to precede a glass of Mint Baileys that would be lovely." Test that one out - I bet they'll still get you a wine you like! All of their staff are well-trained and really help keep up the non-pretentious and friendly vibe.
I sense I'm rambling so will try and cut it down!
Wine - obviously their true forte and brilliant for it. They sell wine to take out or drink in (with the drink in prices obviously higher). Tuesdays offer take out prices to drink in on wine and I think they do the same on Wednesday for Champagne and Sparkling only.
Food - brilliantly selected platters of cold food. From tastylicious smoked fish, to rich Spanish meats and salads and posh pies between. All top quality and for those who care, it's obviously organic! And if that doesn't take your fancy, you can bring your own food in anyway (for a small charge).
Basically, the place is just great for sitting around chatting for hours enjoying brilliant wine. Love it. (They've got one in Clapham too. At the danger of sounding too much like an East Dulwichite - it's good, but not quite as good as the original on Lordship Lane!)
Cons
Ummm, really, none.
