It feels like a strip joint but it's a decent local (Recommended)

Pros It's underground, it's partially lit by lighting taken directly from an Amsterdam peep show and the arches in the ceiling make you thing Bilbo Baggins is about to appear holding a golden band. (He'll probably be dancing on a pole but...).

But it's great.

This place can be odd, it's either empty or it's packing people in.
It can fill up pretty fast and there's always a young and well... pretty good looking crowd. Good place to be if you're a single male.

Drink is cheap, like the buy one get one free on bottles of beer a little while back. (Although this was because their pumps died). Decent selection of beer and they have Guinness which is pretty decent.

Cons Sort out the locks on the toilet doors people.

Hmm, that second picture looks like a fair ground ride...

a pub with style (Recommended)

Pros Parker Mcmillan is stylish city pub, which is perfect for having drinks after work with colleagues. Friday nights can be a bit manic, but its a good lively place to gossip with friends. The Pool table is good (although a little wonky) with plenty of elbow rooms. The pool table can be hired for £8/hour.

Cons The drinks can be quite expensive.

pleasantly surprised (Recommended)

Pros when someone suggested going to Parker Mcmillan I was initially skeptical, imagining it to be soulless like All-Bar_One but surprisingly this underground/wine cellar type bar oozes with character. Unfortunately it was rather quiet on my first visit but this meant we could easily shoot pool, uninterrupted. The price of a beer is pretty decent for the city and the seating areas look pretty comfortable for groups. If i didin't work near this bar I probably would never have gone.

Cons None given.

I could get lost in here, is that a bad thing or a good thing? (Recommended)

Pros Well when i was first led here by my new work chums i wondered what sort of place this was, the outside doesnt really give much away, but after wandering down some stairs, through some rooms, round some corners, i was at the pool table, and more importantly had found the bar ;-)

Cons for people completely new to this place it does seem a bit of a maze but not so bad when you walk round, also no mobile signal as underground

Nice place for a few (Recommended)

Pros The drinks and atmosphere here are really good. The price isn't brilliant outside happy hour, but I wasn't unhappy to pay those prices due to how good the place really is. Plus the pool room is well sized so that you can hang out in a group and the people playing don't get in your way. Once we had to wait while they made sure the table was level and the manager gave us a free round for the inconviniece.

Cons As I said, the pool table sometimes is a bit wonky and it's not cheep for a regular pint.

Where is everybody? (Recommended)

Pros Two for one cocktails and cheap beer in the happy hour in this underground bar. Can always get a seat and the pool table is rarely busy. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is available and tastes good. Becks Vier on tap.

Occasional DJ or speciality night on a Friday.

I do like this place, possibly because the black walls and red neon lighting remind me of the kind of places I jumped up and down in when I was a student.

Cons Looks like a strip joint from the outside.

It seems that the management and the ideas change incredibly frequently so I worry for its future. It really would be better if it could attract a few more customers - I don't want a packed bar, but some atmosphere would be good. We have been the only people here on several occasions; I once sat here for two hours on a Tuesday evening with a friend and we were the only customers, outnumbering the staff.

Ten pound card minimum. Limited mobile coverage due to being underground.

Hit the happy hour and leave before it ends (Recommended)

Pros Happy hour: 2-4-1 mohitos and caparinhas and cheap lager. Book the pool table by the hour and lounge in the seats when your booking ends.

Cons The entrance is strangely reminiscent of spearmint rhino. Prices hike heavily when it's not 2-4-1 and the service can become really slow as the staff do their best Tom Cruise impression.

going underground... (Recommended)

Pros awesome bar, had a lot of fun nights here on numerous ocassions, notably rockeoke! just around the corner from where i work on finsbury square, it probably suffers from a lack of exposure as it's pretty well hidden away. they do cocktails, nothing out of the ordinary but it's well worth it if you get there straight from work as they have happy hour from 5-8 (i think, i'm usually worse for wear by that point...)

Cons when it does get busy the cocktail menu really slows the bar down which can be a pain if you're a bit thirsty!

hmmm, forgot to mention that the entrance does indeed resemble a strip-joint and that it's quite easy to miss if you don't know exactly where it is. a good or bad thing depending on whether you like to keep your favourite watering holes under your hat or not...
